Ticket Sales Tip Week #30
I was reminded last night as a guest with a good friend Kevin Kirby that home teams need to be careful not to over value an event. This happens when they discount the impact of the DOW, time of year and start time.
Last night in Toronto, the Blue Jays were facing the run away leader for the Cy Young in the heat of a Jays pennant race vs the markets biggest attraction (New York Yankees) and they did it in front of 8,000 fewer fans then their weakest weekend gate all season. This won’t be a surprise to Chris Spano.
MLB’s Wild Card and Division Series games will be tested.
Fortunately, MLB’s Wild Cards game hosts being set will help offset next weeks midweek schedule and the TV Network controlled start times. That said, it will be interesting to see if the Wildcard winners (with limited runway to sell tickets) can fill capacity and protect the Membership preferred rate vs the secondary floor price for the midweek Division Series games in week 2.
Be sure to check back and I’ll let you know how they did.
