Ticket Sales Tip of the week #37

Promotions aren’t just for filling unsold seats.

Mike Veeck may have created promotions exclusively to sell seats but with dynamic pricing, the landscape has forever changed. The Bruins, Warriors and Dodgers (the first two sell out every game and the Dodgers lead MLB attendance by a ton) are also promotion leaders in their respective leagues.

Why Reason #1? Great promotions drive interest (this means ticket value) in the same manner that a star visiting player/team does at the Major level and July 4th does for Minor League baseball.

Why Reason #2? Helps defend teams from facing increased “no show” rates which impacts the game day per cap and can sledge hammer the following seasons membership retention.

On the Minor league sports side Chip Allen formerly with Durham now running the Coastal Plain League, Dave Eisenberger Wilkes Barre Penguins and Steven Cohen Brooklyn Cyclones (thanks Jeff Deline for the Cyclones intel) all create premium inventory thru promotions.
