Ticket Sales Tip of the Week #68
(The MLB Wildcard Game isn’t a premium date)
The uncertainty around the Wildcard playoff schedule and games start time (controlled by national networks) work to the disadvantage of the fans schedule to attend the games which negatively impacts demand.
Reality, this doesn’t apply exclusively to the Wildcard round in baseball, it can apply to playoff games for any sport based on the games start time, DOW, opponent or the timing of an unexpected confirmed home date.
Solution: Price the playoff game rate to reflect it being a true benefit to your season ticket holders. This will protect your Season Ticket holders from the unexpected scheduling of the dates which as a franchise you can’t control. Teams who choose not to protect their season ticket holders interests around playoffs pricing risk this being a variable not to retain memberships.
In Wednesday’s report I’ll release the game 1 MLB Wild card Box Office (typically 30% higher than Season Ticket holder rates) and secondary rates. In addition, I’ll also highlight how my favorite Major and Minor League team are dealing with playoffs to benefit existing Members.
