Ticket Sales Tip of the Week #84
(Defending your primary ticket from the secondary market appeal)

With encouragement from my colleague Ben Cobbold, 5 months ago we recorded the entry level price for every NBA and NHL ’24-25 scheduled game for which we update every 3 weeks to better understand what’s happening. Early learnings (minus the team record), weekend trumps most opponents for demand and ticket value, prices drop leading up to start time, and the most popular team is the Lakers.

The Warriors, Celtics and Knicks in NBA and the NHL’s Maple Leaf’s, Rangers and Oilers all increase demand but none are on the Lakers level.
Ex: Hornets home next Mon. vs Lakers, opened at $77 entry today sits at $83. Hornets home next Wed vs the Nets, opened at $7 today sits at $2.

Biggest concern: The game day sliding price scale for most games rewards your least value customer (last minute game day secondary shopper) and is converting loyal season seat holders into game day buyers.

Solutions: Accurately price, ticket exchange and meaningful benefits.
