Ticket Sales Tip of the Week #110
(Don’t inflate the price of your early round playoff tickets)
No question that for fans and the market they represent, nothing compares to the excitement of playoff sports. The saying “every pitch” counts has a similar comparison in every sport. That said, in addition to the playoffs being a channel to thank your members for being season long supporters, the unknown variables attached to the playoff schedule (opponent, dates and times and unexpected additional games) discounts the tickets value and should be accounted for when pricing for members. If you don’t, you risk the fear of “stealing” from your loyal members should the secondary market be cheaper.
The Stars below use the playoffs as a true membership reward.
Major League Stars- Will Kay VP of TS Hamilton Tiger Cats
Included in full season and half season membership with the Tiger Cats is the teams home playoff game (guaranteed to fall on a weekend) which is priced on par with the an average regular season game, well below the box office rate.
Minor League Stars- Marc Lira Sr Director of Sales Toronto Marlies
The membership for the Marlies includes the 1st 3 rounds of the playoffs and regular season pricing for round 4 should they play for the championship.
To see the impact from an unexpected schedule, check out the prices on the secondary market for next weeks MLB Wild Card games for which the opponents and midweek game times won’t be released until likely Sunday.
