Ticket Sales Tip of the Week #119
(The importance of the runway to sell tickets is underappreciated)
The biggest challenge with unconfirmed home dates is that you eliminate group sales and cause stress for suite holders trying to fill boxes. Fortunately, in the past this only occurred in the playoffs (the seasons biggest games) which helps offsets the scramble.
The NBA Cup based on the lack of runway it creates for the home team, has been a home team ticket sales disaster. The Vegas finals games not selling out in December I understand b/c it’s a TV first product. What concerning is the fallout in markets that need to fill the unscheduled dates. #NBAticketsales
Fallout: The Lakers hosted a non sellout, Charlotte lowest gate@ entry price (on a Friday night), Mavs had $10.00 weekend tickets (compared to $18.00) and the Suns vs Laker game’s secondary entry was 1/4 on a weekend compared to the scheduled Lakers @ Suns Wednesday game.
Potential Solution-
List the unknown NBA Cup home dates outside the membership package with a special price to ensure you sellout the venue. By giving Season Ticket holder the 1st right of refusal, you would turns the event into a ticket holder perk.
